Some thoughts...

Your application is very good. Tagging works wonderful! Way better than keeping snippets in folders. Not sure why people want sub directories. If you use tags correctly it takes that hassle away. Nothing worse than drilling down those! Mostly I use in all my computing tag based software now as a choice to get rid of sub directories! Of course as you know tagging is extra work but once you get into it, it is fine.

I have a few bits of feedback for you.

You have to get syncing up ASAP. I think once you get it you will be flooded with registrations. Some of my friends are saying that is why they don't buy in and are waiting for that. On a purely business model that is an essential part I think of your growth. My bet is this missing feature holds many back from using your software. I, like most coders now, use many Macs for my work. You need some kind of syncing, cloud or server system. Something to take this hassle away. If you were going to do one thing I think this is it as a priority.

I don't get your sharing thing totally. I don't think many are sharing any really good code on it that is understandable and cataloged well. If you make your living coding you don't share it without some kind of thought to it. I am not sure this is worth it being a feature as casually code sharing is not such a good thing. You would be better turning it into an online service for people to privately view there files or show them to colleagues etc. There are ways to share open source code I don't think you should get involved with this on such a casual basis - of snippet based sharing. Snippets are one persons chuck it in and grab it later...none of it is well documented. The web is bursting with code sharing resources that are well set up, not sure we need this. I think you should just go for what your good at snippet management and stop there. Ofc this is purely my opinion...and what is great is you can use it or not...so you have covered that...I am just thinking of your coding time on supporting this long term when it may not be the most popular feature.

Textmate integration was a great idea! More of that would be good.

Your pop up window for placing snippets - that big black box with the arrow. Can't say I need that. Could there be an option to turn it on or off or make it less obtrusive. On my MacPro I don't care plenty screen space but on my MacBook it is a pain for screen space as it shoots out across the screen. The window is fantastic and so responsive with the tags and fast but the black arrow I would like to see gone and some kind of tip in the window itself and not popping up. Maybe a mini window on the bottom with the tag tips. I don't deny it looks cool but sometimes cool is annoying...and a more simple way is better.

Importing you need to improve this so coders with folders full can one click get it in. Exporting would be nice if you could put out every snippet to plain text on it's own you select and not grouped up.

Lastly thanks for a great application concept! These are just my thoughts and I am certainly not criticizing. I think your application is just what we need on OSX and is forming up nicely. All your competition I have looked at and none interest me as much as you. You could be absolutely massive here with just a bit more polishing and feature adding. Sometimes it feels new and that is exactly why my friends say yeah that is a wonderful idea but mmmm bit too new needs work we will stick with our in house way still...I see no reason when polished why ever OSX coder on the planet would not buy in. So best of luck!

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for the feedback. Syncing is going to be one of the primary aims of the next version of Code Collector Pro. I've been hearing from a lot of people about how the lack of syncing is what is holding them off purchasing it.

The sharing is in need of major improvements, we're getting close to 2 years since the codecollector.net website was created and it hasn't been improved much since then. We're looking into a complete redesign which will help us to provide features such as private snippets in the future.

I've had some people ask about hiding the info on the snippet search panel, so I'll look into that for a future release. Same with the importing and exporting.

And yeah, despite it being 2 and a half years old it is still fairly young. Most of its life has been spent being developed while I go through university, now that I'm working full time I can give it the full attention it deserves and really polish it.

    Thanks

    Martin
